Life Line by karichristensen Life Line by karichristensen
I finished this one two weeks ago. It was done just like the bot, acrylic on canvas and adrenaline. This one means so much to me I don't know what to do with it. I showed it to some friends and was a little disappointed. They didn't seem to understand. I hope it screams and then whispers softly just like it speaks to me.

*edit* Thomas Baxa traded with me for this painting so it has found a good home and I gained a very nice Baxa vampire.

As you said in the description, it really speaks to me, and I'm not sure what you meant it to be, but to me it seems to have an intense sense of suffering, claustrophobia and suffocation, as if whoever is in the mask wants to scream but they can't make a sound. To me, it seems that the mouths coming from the top of the head are the subconcious of the mask-wearer. They are what is really going on inside his/her head. Maybe a visual metaphor for the way a lot of us feel in every day life. It also spoke of insanity, and lonliness and isolation and depression and many other things. I love the idea of the life line connecting whoever it is to oxygen/life/reality/however you interpret it, and that the life line is so fragile.

Over all and intensly sinister piece... I can't look at it for too long =P (:+fav:)

However, those are just my assumptions - I have no idea what you actually intended the picture to mean.

beautiful expression of the self. I see it as a bottle of inner demons and voices all fighting for control with only one 'pluged' into reality.

This really caught my eye. Beautiful! I hate it when friends don't understand my pieces. I do notice that there is alwyas somone out there who appreciates it as much as you do.

Love it
and it does whisper and scream at the same time (in a real hichpitched wail fo despare)
Love the blending of beings and the simplicity of everything else so that it falls into the background

Don't stop producing works like this just because your friends can't see the reason for your pride in the picture - in the end who cares , as long as you are happy witht eh result and can say that you furthered yourself as an artist. :D (Big Grin)

damn, that's bad ass. had to look at it for a second. my eyes automatically went to the sullen face behind the mask, but then i saw what was on top of the mask. nice blend of chaos and silence. i like the subtle use of color. i wish i could see the piece in person rather than looking at a pic of it. they never do the painting justice. but from the pic it looks like u use the acrylic paint like watercolor, except u use the thickness of the acrylic to give it some texture. awesome work man +fav

hmm. this relates so well to some of the poems i've writen. especially my most recent one.... what do i get out of this. emotions of discomfort.. fear, trapped... it's just so startling. this is one of my favorite pieces of dark art here today. it's definately +fav for it. excellent work my friend.

Solid, jagged, ripping work! I like the textures more than anything. The whole work's no less cool though. have you seen any of Ashley Wood's work? You seem to share an affinity for strangness and robots and things jaggedly beautiful. (!) Really great work here; I can't wait to see some more.

sweetness!!! i think the monster looks too funny to give much emotional content to the work... sadly to me he looks like something that would go "raaaar!" and then just stone and suck on a bong or smthing...

keep it up... im really honoured to have u on my devwatch ^__^

The mixture of smooth plain strokes and sharp details in the "monster" is awesome.

this speaks volumes... the lighting effects are pure grO.ovy.
ravenlunatic Featured By Owner May 7, 2003
I really like this (even though it makes me feel a little uncomfortable!) because I can't help keep looking at it. At first glance the brush strokes look really bold, but after looking at it a little longer the details begin to reveal themselves while still retaining the bold quality.
